Thousands of cats are needlessly euthanized in the greater Miami area each year.

Through no fault of their own, these cats don’t have an indoor home. The greater Miami area is home to one of the largest populations of homeless cats in Florida, with an estimated hundreds of thousands living among us. These cats face daily challenges such as hunger, illness, extreme weather and unkind humans. Without more community support, countless cats will continue to suffer.

"Something needs to change!”

Eager to find a solution to the problem, local community activists Dr. Brigitt Rok and her husband Alan Potamkin made a plan. Their charitable foundation purchased a standalone building and transformed it into South Florida’s first, outdoor cats only high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic, the likes of which Miami-Dade County has never seen.

Together with Tia Williams, legal professional by day and super trapper and trainer at night, Cat Solutions 305 and Street Cat Clinic  has been awarded long-term access to this beautiful new clinic furnished with all the necessary equipment to serve the vulnerable outdoor cats and kittens of southeast Florida.

WHAT IS IT?

Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) is the only humane and effective way to manage free-roaming, outdoor cat populations. Volunteers gently trap homeless cats and kittens using special traps, then take them to a veterinarian or spay/neuter clinic for sterilization surgery. While under anesthesia, the pointed end of the cat's ear is cropped so that it has a square appearance. This allows for identification from a distance that a cat has already been sterilized. “Ear tipping” is the universally accepted identification for sterilized outdoor cats. The next day, the volunteers return the cats to their original locations, where they can continue living comfortably in the outdoor homes from where they came. Sterilized outdoor cats are healthier and live longer than their unsterilized free-roaming friends, making TNVR a wonderful choice for our feline companions!

Cat Solutions 305 helped us!

Luna

I used to roam the docks at a Miami marina, sneaking scraps from the fishermen. One day, a kind soul reached out to Cat Solutions 305, Inc. and they dispatched a friendly cat trapper to help me. I was taken to Street Cat Clinic where I was spayed,  vaccinated, given flea and tick medication, ear tipped and returned to my outdoor home. Now, I’m back at the marina, but this time as the official "Dock Cat"! I keep an eye on the boats, charm the tourists, and nap in the sun whenever I please. The staff tells me I’ve become a little celebrity down here!

Simba & Milo

As kittens, we wandered into a big plant nursery in Little Havana, chasing mice and lizards around between the flowers and palm fronds. One of the caring employees knew we needed help. He found Cat Solutions 305, Inc., who immediately dispatched a nearby trained trapper team. These nice trapper people took us to Street Cat Clinic, where we were spayed and vaccinated for free, then returned to our favorite plant-filled paradise. Now we are the nursery’s mini-mascots. We greet visitors, chase off any uninvited critters, and lounge in the sun by the orchids. People love seeing us weave through the plants while we work. We’re pretty sure we add a little magic to their shopping!

Biscuits

Biscuits was found in the streets by one of our compassionate trappers. Dr. Mat at Street Cat Clinic thought this cat was so sickly and skinny; he could not go back into the streets. He would not survive. Biscuits was so friendly, making biscuits to all of the staff. Dr. Mat thought he must have an owner and possibly he was lost. He checked for a microchip. Biscuits had a microchip; sadly his owner had recently died and he was abandoned in the streets. He could not fend for himself outdoors and alone. Luckily, a kind foster took him into their home, loved him, and helped him regain his health. Once Biscuits was ready for adoption, one of our rescue partners found him a new loving home with a family who adores him. Now he is living his best life. Another happy ending!
